The Importance of Spaying & Neutering

Despite our best efforts, pet overpopulation is a huge problem in our country. And it’s easy to see why. Just look at the statistics:

  • On average, 7 million animals enter shelters every year*
  • Of those, about 4 million who are not adopted will be euthanized*
  • One female dog and her offspring can create 67,000 dogs in just six years*
  • One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in just seven years*

You can imagine how much strain this puts on our community's resources. Because of animal overpopulation, too many animals end up lost, in shelters and left to survive on their own. By spaying and neutering your pets, you can help end pet overpopulation. If you feel like these numbers are too staggering for one person to make a difference, you're wrong; since 1995, the annual average of euthanized homeless pets has dropped from 13.5 million down to 4 million because of successful efforts to promote spay/neuter. Yes, we still have a long way to go, but you can make a difference.

Need more reasons to spay and neuter?

  • It significantly reduces the risks of your pet developing cancer or other illness.
  • It makes pets less likely to roam the neighborhood, run away or get lost.
  • Your pets will be less inclined to be aggressive and less likely to bite.
  • Your pet is more likely to become more calm, gentle and affectionate.
  • It can reduce or eliminate unwanted behaviors such as spraying, wailing and heat cycles.

If your pet’s not yet spayed or neutered, don’t wait. Call one of our low-cost spay/neuter clinics to set an appointment. Trust us, your pet will thank you!
